Norwich Theatre Royal offers a range of workshops for primary and secondary education establishments. These workshops are led by Theatre educators and specialist creative practitioners, and can be tailored to meet your curriculum needs or current teaching focus
Some activities can be delivered in your classroom or school while others can take place at Norwich Theatre Royal.
Workshop prices range from £150 to £360 plus VAT, depending on length and practitioners required.

Primary and Early Years Workshops
We use drama strategies as teaching tools to support teachers in a wide range of subjects. These are particularly useful when working on cross-curricular themes. These workshops support a wide range of subjects including history, geography, mathematics and science, and are adaptable to your requirements.
Students use a variety of theatre techniques to explore characters from fairy tales, myths or novels; or create their own new characters to enhance their creative writing. This workshop brings narrative to life, and helps develop understanding of literacy and oracy.
A workshop brings literature to life through a range of drama techniques to support literacy skills. The workshop can be based on any classroom text, and tailored to meet your learning outcomes.
Play in a Day
An exciting day for children to explore a well-known story or topic. Using improvisation, drama games, and theatre skills, students will work together to create a unique piece of theatre in a day.
From Page to Stage
Students explore, direct and perform a scene based on your classroom text. The workshop helps students deepen their understanding of the text, and explore how themes and meaning are communicated through performance.
Use theatre techniques to help share personal stories and build social awareness. Taking experiences from historic individuals or students’ own lives, this drama workshop helps pupils develop empathy and emotional intelligence.
As an introduction to the genre, this workshop will explore how performers use their bodies to tell stories and communicate without the need for dialogue. This is a popular theatre style with exam classes, and seen more frequently in contemporary performances.
This workshop gives students the opportunity to learn the basic techniques required to work with masks, and explore the potential for their use in future work. It is particularly suitable for Level 2 Performing Arts BTEC students.
Learning collaborative skills, students will explore where to find and how to use different types of stimuli, work together as a team to make creative decisions, and develop their own performance. This workshop is particularly suitable for GCSE and A Level Drama and Theatre students.
Technical Theatre Workshop
This session explores several key aspects of theatre production and technical stagecraft, including lighting, sound design, stage management, and theatre health and safety. This workshop is particularly suitable for GCSE Drama students.
Live Theatre Production
Supporting preparation for the Live Theatre Production exams, we offer short pre-show workshops that help broaden students’ knowledge in relation to how design, directing choices and performances affect the audience.
Norwich Playhouse Industry Days
Students will gain a unique insight into the day-to-day workings of the theatre. A backstage tour will be followed by a ‘speed dating’ session with select members of Playhouse staff from a variety of departments.
